Carmel Wedding Photographer: Makeup Au Naturale

Today’s bride is asking to look like herself on her wedding day, only better. The makeup artist is becoming an even more critical part of the wedding team and the pre-wedding makeup session is high on the list of priorities. From a photographer’s perspective, shine control is a must. I would much rather pick up the features of “dewy skin” and perfectly-highlighted cheekbones and eyebrows than of oily shine on the center of one’s forehead or chin.

Carmel hair stylist and makeup artist Joette Catanzaro of the Salon at Lincoln Lane shares that mineral makeup often fails to deliver adequate coverage or highlight control, even for the minimalist bride. She is increasingly sought out for a classic, dewy, yet elegant look. She concedes that this is part product, part technique. The moment that a certain celebrity (think Buddhist bombshell mother and baby number two on the way) walked through her salon doors and squealed with delight at her featured products, Joette knew that she has chosen correctly. Actresses like her must be photo-ready each time they step foot out of the house.

Makeup artist Shannon L. Woods echoes that products and technique must go hand-in-hand. With an extensive background in both high-end makeup sales and independent wedding makeup application, Shannon shares a few favorites. For one, she professes to love-love-love Fresh Face concealer and foundation. For the bride that seeks hydration and that classical yet dewy complexion, she recommends Creme de la Mer moisturizer. Time to break out the magazine tutorials, Heidi Morgan!
